Pete Johnson took the cigar world by storm 10 years ago with his Tatuaje brand. Now he's branching out with new projects, spearheaded by a new brand he has dubbed L'Atelier. Made by Johnson's longtime partners the Garcia family of My Father Cigars (makers of the 2012 Cigar of the Year) L'Atelier cigars are complex and tasty, capped with pigtails that make them resemble Cohiba Behikes, on which they are loosely modeled. L'Ateliers are considerably tasty smokes, and our favorite is the largest, the LAT56, which is teeming with notes of chocolate and wood and just the right amount of truffle.

Cigar Aficionado's 100-Point Scale
  • Classic: 95-100
  • Outstanding: 90-94
  • Very good to excellent: 80-89
  • Average to good commercial quality: 70-79
  • Don't waste your money: 0-69
